TEACHERS SECTION
INTRODUCTION
The Preamble of our Constitution defines the ‘idea of India’ as a secular and democratic republic
committed to securing for all its citizens, justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, all aimed at securing the
dignity of the individual ‘the cornerstone in the edifice of human rights’.
In schools, we have a lot of people working towards the success of the institution, like Trustees,
Management, Principal, teachers, non-teaching staff, students, parents, support staff etc. We all know
the value of each member involved in the school community, but hardly some of them get a chance to be
recognized for the efforts that each of them put in to make it a successful Educational Institution.
Let us make the month of Dignity more meaningful by celebrating the ‘Gratitude Day’ for our support staff
in the school.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
1. Students will be able to recognize the value of support staff in their daily school routine.
2
2. Students will be able to think about the value of each member in their own school environment
3. Students will get involved in paying gratitude to the efforts of their support staff, and make them feel special
STEPS FOR THE ACTIVI TY
1. Take necessary permissions to organize the Gratitude Day in your school and announce the day.
2. Divide responsibilities amongst DACC members to organize the Gratitude Day. Like- making and sending
out invitations, logistics arrangements, games for support staff, token of appreciations (Thank you cards,
bands, appreciation cards, congratulations cards, badges, gifts, etc.)
3. Celebrate the Gratitude Day, Start the programme with Welcome speech by the Principal, prepare a
welcome song
4. School also can decide on a guest speaker or an interesting session for their support staff and invite parents
to witness their children’s efforts.
OTHER IDEAS TO CELEB RATE
GRATITUDE SURPRISE STICKY NOTES
Give each student one or more sticky notes to write something they’re grateful for, about another person
in the school (excluding other students). Then have the students ‘deliver’ the sticky notes by placing them
where the person will see it, e.g., a classroom, toilet door, a cleaning cart, canteen, assembly hall, stairs
etc.
GRATITUDE PAPER- CHAIN
Provide each student with the 5X5 paper piece and they need to write “My day (or life) is better because
……… (Name of support staff who helped her/him) with the activity/act, they have been doing” and paste
all of these on a chart paper. Display the chart paper in the assembly hall or reception or auditorium where
you have decided to hold the event.
INTERVIEWS WITH SUPPORT STAFF
Make groups of students (2-3 students) from each class and ask them to select the support staff from their
own school and interview them for 15-20 minutes.
Name
Type of work
Years of experience
What they enjoy the most in their work
What challenges they are facing in their work
Have a plenary discussion on how could you as students help them overcome these challenges.
3
GRATITUDE RAPID FIRE ROUND
Students can play the game with Support staff to engage them and make them feel very special.
It is also a tool for everyone to think about the things we should be Thankful for
Make it a quick round to include the fun element.
Call the participants (Support staff) on stage and give them a chance to answer the questions one
by one
List of questions
Something that makes you happy in life
A gift to make someone else happy in your opinion
